Osmosis as alternative energy may be possible using chemical nanotubes!

Remember learning about osmosis in middle school or high school? In case you don’t- it’s the transfer of salts from water with a high concentration across a membrane into water with less salts? Energy can actually be released from this process (osmotic power), but most techniques that have been studies haven’t produced a reasonable amount of power using osmotic energy. A new study uses boron nitride nanotubes to attract cations (salts with a positive charge) and enhance the movement of the salts so that the intensity of the current from osmosis is more than 1000 times higher than in other research!

Here is the research article for the scientists out there.
